A dive into practical aspects of integrating life cycle assessment metrics into design workflow; including emerging questions around applying data from Environmental Product Declarations in comparing the carbon footprint of different lighting layouts.

Based in New York, Leela Shanker leads the Design Lab with WAP Sustainability. Synthesizing architectural design, sustainability analytics, material innovations and change management practices, the Lab partners with leading stakeholders from design, real estate and manufacturing to implement strategies furthering decarbonization, circularity and material health outcomes in the built environment. She previously founded the GreenLight Alliance’s Life Cycle Assessment Incubator while inhouse as a lighting designer with consulting engineering firm, BR+A and previously WeWork’s Global design team. Her work with the Flint Collective NYC, a non-profit 501(c)(3) she founded has been recognized by the Illuminating Engineering Society with Special Citation for Lighting as a Tool for Social Impact. Leela is a steering committee member of the American Institute of Architects’ Decarbonization Committee and a contributing member of the New Museum of Contemporary Arts’ NEW INC incubator.
